Help for Clients
I’m a client, do I need to register?
Nope. The directory is for local Web businesses only. As a client, you’re free to roam all over the site, exploring local talent and learning more about the Web pros who live and work here. :)
Do you recommend these businesses?
No, we don’t make recommendations about businesses listed in our directory. We provide a service to make finding prospective candidates easier, what you do after that is up to you. We recommend setting up face-to-face meetings (or phone conversations) and checking references.
Any editing or pruning of directory listings that we do is simply to maintain our focus on Web-related businesses in the Portland, OR area. We can make no assurances about the businesses listed in our directory, or that the information contained in any business listing is accurate. For more, read our Terms of Service.
Help for Web Professionals
What’s a directory listing comprised of?
Your business contact information, details & description of your business, a small project portfolio (3 projects w/ 3 images each), and an RSS feed showing recent news.
Why are directory listings free?
Because that’s the only way to create a valuable resource — once you sully the contents of the directory in any way, you’re on the long path to nowhere.
What business categories do you support?
Well, pretty much all of them right now. Business categories are enabled via tagging, meaning you can include whatever categories you feel will help clients find your business.
Keep in mind, we reserve the right to remove profiles (and users, for that matter) that we feel aren’t appropriate or don’t enhance the value of the community.
How many projects and images can I add?
The portfolio section can include up to 3 projects. Each project can include up to 3 images. Images should be no larger than 800px wide x 600px high and 50KB file size.
Can I choose my RSS feed?
Yes, definitely. When choosing an RSS feed, try and choose one that’s focused on your business, since that’s what prospective clients will see first. If you only have one personal/work blog, add a category RSS feed, instead of your main feed.
I don’t have a blog.
Well, then you should get one immediately. Wordpress.com offers them for free. If we lead a few more people to implement customer-facing communications (read: blogs), then we’ve done a good thing here.
Why no OpenID support?
We expect to add OpenID support in the near future, but we’re going to focus on the primary directory service first, and see where that goes before going too crazy and adding more features.
